I want to use a DVI to HDMI cable.

Step 4 - Configure this solution.

Connect the DVI end of the cable to your desktop's DVI output and the HDMI end to your HD TVs HDMI input. Plug the 3.5mm to RCA audio cable into your computer's speaker out and into the audio in on the TVs HDMI input or into you home theater system. Set the TV to the HDMI input and turn on the computer. It should begin to display on the TV.
 
Depending on your HD TV and computer you will be able to set either a 720 or 1080 resolution. Consult the manuals that came with your computer and HD TV to set it to the optimal resolution.
